Composition: Bell Ringer – January 18, 2013

Try to remember your earliest memory. Who was there? Where were you? What was happening? What are some of the images you can recall? Brainstorm a list of these.

Write a DESCRIPTIVE 6-line poem detailing the memory. Be as thorough as possible, but also focus on writing in a poetic form.

Sign in in the upper right corner using your school email account. Once you see your name or email address, post your poem as a comment to this post. Copy your poem in the event that it is deleted before posting.

  1. When I was young i was wild.
So free, so careless; a happy child.
I lived in Colorado for 7 years,
leaving that place was my worst fear.
My favorite place down the street,
was the ice cream shop where I would eat.

  2. When I was three
Railings were the fear for me.

One day my head got stuck
If only I had some luck.

If it wasn't for my shout
My dad would have never got me out.

  3. I was 4 years old, sleeping at my grandparents' house
It was 1:10 in the morning
I was sleeping until I heard a strange noise
I woke up and noticed that the closet door was open
I look up and see a strange demonic shadow
I scream and my grandma comes running in the room

  4. When I was little, A long time ago,
I was a small girl, dressed in ribbons and bows.
I waited by the stove for dinner to come,
But I got to close, and burned my thumb!
And now all thats left is a small little scar,
To remind me of that day only from a far.

  5. I was an athletic little child,
always shooting baskets and throwing balls,
but one day the ball wanted revenge,
I was 3 and dad threw the baseball,
I remember seeing it coming and then bang!
right into my forehead, and thats how I learn to use my glove.

  6. Quiet and shy,
    unlike the other kids.
    Small and timid,
    afraid of them all.
    My earliest memory,
of the shy kid I use to be.

  8. When I was only a few years old,
I was taught and constantly told.

Even through my aches and sores,
I was told to do my chores.

Though I wanted to fly my kite,
I did my chores morning and night.

  11. Every since I was little I never
    really liked school.

At the time my brother had chicken pox
So we made a plan to rub backs.

Two days later, I was at home with
the chicken pox, and not at school.

  12. My living room on a warm summers day
me and my sister dancing away
twirling in circles in time with the song
two little girls doing no wrong.
Sometimes I look back on that warm summers day
and I think of those two girls dancing away.

  13. My earliest memory I can recall was when I was about five or six. I was at my house and my mom was there. I'm not sure if my uncle was too. There was a large drill in our yard. They were drilling a new well for us. The were drill down into the ground. It took awhile for them to finish.

  14. Fresh start for everyone
    First grade was the beginning

    I was being friendly
It was scary for some and happy for others

Deliberately trying to make things bad
    Didn't change anything now

  15. It was "back in the day" when Garnavillo and Guttenberg where still separate schools
It was game day, basketball that is
I was sitting up in the balcony, right in the front row, watching the great game

I had skittles, my mom made sure I didn't drop them onto the floor
The gym was packed, for it was close to the end of an era
The era of Garnavillo and Guttenberg being separate, where over

    Just another day.

I had a very good day
With all the friends I had.

But then the teacher called my name
    To clean up after snacks.

  18. I was 5, it started as any other day, but ended worse than any other.
I had gotten out of school just hours before.
I saw people running, and screaming on the t.v.
And why? Because someone had brought down two towers.
The towers that seemed to reach the sky.
That day was September 11, 2001.

  20. Down By the River
The waves hushed in the wind

The fish looking for food in the hot summer sun.
The pole bends and sways to the rhythm of the current
While the worm bobs up and down to the waves force.
The water gets rough and the day quite.

  23. One second I could see the house, the lane, and our dog.
    The next they were gone.

Driving that little car down our lane
Sitting on dad's lap, steering the car left and right

We could of been hurt, but my dad reacted quickly
One second is all it took.

  24. It was in the summer and soon I would be in fourth grade.
My family and I were coming down the hill to Guttenberg.
All I remember seeing was smoke rising in the air where my house used to be.
My parents didn't want us to see it right away so we went to my Uncles house.
Later that same day my parents picked us up and took us to the house.
When we got there I was so sad because I didn't have a house anymore.

    I've loved to fish

Every fish I caught I made a wish
