What does friendship mean to you? Would Amir say that Hassan is his friend? Why? Would Hassan say that Amir is his friend? Do you think that Amir and Hassan are friends?
Respond to these questions in one paragraph (8-11 sentences) and give evidence from the novel to explain your stance.
Friendship means that through everything you have someone standing by your side. Amir would probably only say Hassan is his friend if something was going bad for him so he had someone to blame. He thinks that Hassan is just someone to hang out with so he isn't bored. However, Hassan is such a good friend to Amir. He would probably do anything and everything for Amir if he asked. I would say so but on different levels. Like I said Hassan would probably give his life to help Amir. But all in all, I think that those two are friends
ReplyDeleteTo me friendship means being able to experience both sad and happy moments with someone. Friendship is someone knowing how you feel without you having to say anything. I don't think that Amir would admit they are friends. Also, Amir can't deny that most of his childhood was spent with Hassan. I think Hassan would say that Amir is his best friend. Hassan thinks the world of Amir even if Amir acts indifferent towards him sometimes. Anything Amir would to do Hassan would love it nonetheless. To me Amir and Hassan are friends even if Amir is kind of a bad friend. Some instances Amir shows his true feelings like trying to calm down Hassan when some soldiers were making fun of Hassan's mother. They were breast friend from the same person so their bond is deep.

ReplyDeleteA friend to me is someone that you can talk to about certain things and not have to worry about what you say. A friend is someone who will always be there for you no matter what. A friend is someone that will support you through any situation. Amir would say that he is his friend. He said that he did not care if he was a Shi'a. He was raised with him since he was little. To me I think that he considers Hassan as a friend because he reads for him when they are together because Hassan can not read. I think that this shows that Amir cares for Hassan. I also think that Hassan considers Amir as a friend because Hassan is so dedicated to Amir. I do not think that this friendship is going to last because Amir is starting to think bad things about the Shi'a. When Hassan talked about Amir's story Amir thought things like "What does that dumb Hazzaran know anyways?" This is why I think that this friendship is about to end.

ReplyDeleteFriendship to me is having someone you can be close with and talk to and trust. I think that Amir would say that Hassan is his friend because he can talk to him and they do things together like go to movies. Amir might not say they are though, due to Hassan being a Hazara. Hassan would also say they are friends because he is easily manipulated and he thinks that by doing the things Amir says to do, that Amir will like him more, such as using the sling shot at the neighbors dog, and then taking the blame for it. Hassan is very devoted to Amir. I think that they are friends, but then on some points I don't think they are because I think Amir abuses their friendship and isn't as loving towards Hassan as Hassan is towards him.
ReplyDeleteFriendship is someone who is always there for you, they are someone who listens to you when you have problems, or just want to talk. I think that Amir would consider Hassan as his friend, because Hassan is always there for Amir and is there to listen to Amir and his stories that he writes. Hassan would consider Amir as his friend also because they always are together, they always have plans, Amir always reads to Hassan and helps him understand the words and the meanings to them. Yes I think Amir and Hassan are really good friends, they are always there for each other and always listen to each other.

Hassan does consider Amir friends because they grew up together. I think Hassan looks up to Amir and considers him a brother. I don't think Amir and Hassan have a good friendship. I think this way because Amir really doesn't consider Hassan friends. I think Amir feels like he has to be around Hassan because they grew up together. Hassan does everything for Amir, when Amir doesn't do anything for Hassan.
ReplyDeleteTo me friendship means having someone there for you to help you. Life is tough, and even more difficult without someone by your side. A friend is an important person in life. Hassan is a devoted friend to Amir. He really likes him and is there for him. Amir on the other hand, no so much.

Hassan would say No, because he would say he like a brother to him. I think Amir and Hassan are more like brothers not friends because they been together for a long time. They support each other on anything.

Hassan is always doing whatever Amir tells him too and is just a good friend to Amir. I think Hassan does not think that Amir is his friend. Amir is always pressuring him to do things he doesn't want to do and he's just not very nice to Hassan. I think they are friends, maybe not the best of friends but they should be considered friends.

I believe that to have a friendship with someone is very special person.Why are they special friends are special because they will do things that you will not thing they would every do. I would say they are friends because they are devoted to one another. In my opinion Hassan is friends with Amir because they need each other in their lives. Amir and Hassan in my opinion are good friends. I believe this because without each other there lives would be miserable.

ReplyDeleteTo me friendship is being able to tell someone anything and they won't judge you for it or hold it against you. I personally believe that Amir and Hassan are friends deep down but on the outside they aren't because of their differences of religion and race. I also believe that Amir would not consider Hassan to be a friend, although Hassan considers Amir a friend, because it is against what he is supposed to believe. Hassan is supposed to be a servant and nothing more.
ReplyDeleteFriendship to me means backing up a friend in the good times and bad. Just like Amir and Hassan, they are very good friends. Friends go over to each other's houses and tell each other everything without having people you don't wanna know, know. Without friends, life would be tough because friends not only just hang with you, but they give each other great advice. The biggest thing between friends is trust. Without trust, you having nothing. Amir would only call Hassan his friend if something were bad to happen.
ReplyDeleteFriendship is a commitment that I think a lot of people don't totally, for lack of a better word, commit to. But when someone likes you and cares about you enough to be there for you, through thick and thin, that's a true friend. Amir would say Hassan is his friend because he's always there for him, whenever he needs him. But then again, Amir wouldn't tell anyone else that Hassan is his friend, simply because he is a Hazara. Hassan would probably gladly say that Amir is his friend. He'd do anything for him, a thousand times over, right? I think that Amir and Hassan are the best of friends, for the time being.

I don't think Amir would say that Hassan is his friend because with Hassan being a Hazara. I think Amir is also jealous due to the fact that his father gives Hassan more than him. For example for Hassan's birthday Amir's father gave him plastic surgery for his cleft lip. I would say that Hassan would say Amir is his friend considering Amir is always there for him. Secretly I think they are friends. Even though Amir wouldn't admit it, I think he considers Hassan his friend.
ReplyDeleteI believe that friendship is mutual trust, loyalty, understanding, forgiveness, and a feeling of equality. I don't believe that Amir would call Hassan his friend. Amir sees himself as better than Hassan, and kind of looks down on him for being a Hazara. I also think Amir also resents Hassan because his father seems to favor Hassan over him. Although, I do believe Amir has a brotherly love for Hassan that he would never admit. I think that Hassan, on the other hand, would gladly claim Amir as his friend. Hassan would put his life on the line for Amir, he loves him and he isn't afraid to show it. Personally, I believe they are friends, but it's complicated. I think Amir might be afraid to let Hassan actually be his "friend" because it's uncommon and "wrong" to be friends with Hazara, especially one who is your servant. That could change though, hopefully Amir will get over all the menial stuff and let Hassan in.
ReplyDeleteFriendship is not something that is between Hassan and Amir. The reason I say this is because there are some points in the book that show this. For one, Amir is very jealous of Hassan's closeness with Baba. A true friend would not let jealousy get to them the way that Amir does. Secondly, Amir begins to look down on Hassan and feels as if Hassan is inferior to him. Thirdly, you can see that he thinks this when he has to debate with himself on whether or not he is going to stand up for Hassan when he gets harassed, bullied, and even raped. A true friend wouldn't have to think twice about that. Friendship requires a few qualities known as: Loyalty, trust, forgiveness, faith, and love. With my best friend, I never would have hesitated to save her from other people's belief if the roles were reversed. Friends stick together so clearly Amir does not think of Hassan as his friend.
ReplyDeleteFriendship is trusting another person and being able to tell them anything or ask anything and to do anything for one another.. amir calls himself hassan's friend only when nobody else is around amir considers himself better than hassan. Hassan loves Amir and would tell everyone he could see he would take a bullet for Amir and i think Amir knows it. amir could possibly feel guilty about not being true about his friend ship with Hassan only because he is a hazera and that it is wrong

It also means that you trust that other person and would never ne able to stay made at them for long. It think in amirs case he thinks of Hassan as not a friend but more of a person who tags along and does whatever he says.I think in Hassans case he thinks of Amir as a friend because they hang out a lot to gather and does not get that Amir is just using him. I would say that in certain ways they are friends but in others they are complete opposites.

I feel like deep inside Amir knows that Hassan is his best friend but, he just doesn't want to admit it to Assef and his friends. He is just embarrassed to have his servant has his amigo.Hassan I know for a fact that he would say that he would say Amir is his friend. Hassan's first word was Amir. Even though Amir doesn't want to admit it out loud, they are truly friends.

Friendship to me means that know matter what, they are always there for you. They have your back know matter what the situation is. You have someone there that you can trust with anything knowing they will not judge you. Amir is friends with Hassan but when other people ask, he says they are not friends because he is a Hazara. Even though he is a Hazara, they still would do anything for each other. Hassan thinks that they are friends which they are when it is just the two of them.

I feel that Amir would say Hassan was his friend if he was in trouble or needed help with something. On the other hand, I also feel that Hassan would do anything for Amir no matter what. ReplyDeleteFriendship to me is being there for people. Through up’s and downs, and around the curve, they will always be there for you. I think that Amir would say yes, but he takes him being there for granted. Even though Hassan would do anything for him, Amir doesn’t really acknowledge that. Like I said before Hassan would do anything for Amir, making him a true friend. I would have to say that in Amir’s eye’s they are friends, but not life long friends, but in Hassan’s eye’s he see’s them doing things together until the day they die.

When they are out in public, he wants nothing to do with him, but when they are at home, Amir plays with him, and they do stuff together. I would consider them friends. They grew up together, and do everything together when they are at home.

I think that Hassan would say that Amir is his friend because Hassan is so loyal to Amir and would truly do anything for him. I think that if Amir needed something or protected then he would call Hassan his friend. They do a lot together and Amir does read Hassan stories and does play with him but only when they are alone. So I would consider them friends but not the best of friends on both sides.
