Critical Thinking Activity - English 9

Please respond to the following critical thinking prompt in the comments.  Your reflective respond need to be at least 6-8 sentences.

You have entered a country searching for a cure for a new disease that is only found in one country but is spreading rapidly. After investigating thoroughly, you realize the cure is only found in the wing feathers of the native people’s holiest, sacred icon – the scarlet ibis,  which is also an endangered species.

However, if you don’t harvest these wings and manufacture this drug, the bacterial scourge now contained in only one country may infect the entire world.

Convince the natives that you must have these wings.

Be thoughtful, creative, and practical in your persuasion. Apply all conventions and mechanics, as your writing style and usage will account for a portion of your grade. Begin the writing with "Dear Natives,".

  2. Dear Natives,

I must use these feathers, I know you have an endangered species, you holiest birds. I understand what they mean to you, but I beg of you to help stop this infection. If anything give me your oldest, weakest birds, let the strong young ones survive and live their lives. I know, and understand how this may harm the birds, and your beliefs, but what if it came down to having to save the human race? Just a few old, weak birds, and I will never ask for more! Please help me, so I can help the world.

  3. Dear Natives,
I have found that the cure to this awful disease is in the wings in your favorite bird. I know that this bird is an endanger species but if you really think of it who do you prefer the bird or your people that have families and stuff? Please think about it really well, let me take the wings so there will be less suffering.

  5. Dear Natives,
I understand that the Scarlet Ibis is an endangered species which is why we offered to have them sexually reproduce by large numbers. We however, need their wings to save the lives of many people. If you would be a willing to cooperate you would be labeled and seen as noble people. There is a disease called "Watchuwant" and it's a rapid spreading disease which causes cancer and aggressive diarrhea. It IS contagious and we can't find another cure.

  6. Dear Natives,
I would like to inform you that there is a rare bird in your country that can cure a disease. I want a bounty on the bird's feathers worth $50,000 and more, depending on how many feathers I get. If this bird is seen anywhere, I would like to be contacted. The lives of Earth in danger and you could help the Earth's people. I have no idea where the bird is, but since you know where it could possibly be, I ask for your aid. If you do not want the money, I could give you a plentiful amount of food. I hope you help me find this scarlet ibis. If not, I will kill you all. :)

    Thank You.

  7. Dear Natives,
I need to harvest these wings to develop this new drug. This drug will save many people from getting infected by this bacterial scourge. It is spreading rapidly, and if I get ahold of those wings I can stop before it carries across the whole world! Natives if you let me have these wings you could be a hero, and I would make sure that you would be noticed for your good work on saving the world. Natives, please help me stop this infection from reaching other countries. Help me stop it before it gets to your loved ones, like your kids. I know you wouldn't want that, so please help me help you.

  8. Dear natives,
If we don't get some Scarlet Ibis wings a whole lot of people will lose their lives to this disease. We can't loose this many people, it will be way to many. No one wants their loved one to pass away. It could be someones mother of father or both. Some people may not even have a family left if this disease doesn't get cured. So please send us some Scarlet Ibis wings.

    Thank you

  9. Dear Natives,
We need to harvest the feathers of the scarlet ibis. We will use these feathers to create a drug that cures the disease that has broken out in our country. If we don't, millions of people could get infected and die. We are trying to contain it in our country, but we might not be able to for much longer. It could spread across the world and kill billions of people. Your people could be heroes by making a sacrifice to save millions of lives.

There is an very severe illness starting in one country, but it is spreading very fast. If I can't get my hands one the holy bird wings I am afraid the disease will spread and the people of the world will die off. Will you please grant me your permission to use the Scarlet Ibis as a cure for this problem? If you accept I will have my people immediately send a large surplus of various foods to help you for the next twelve months. I beg that you put this into consideration and think about the people. With your help, we could save our countries.

  12. Dear Natives,

If the wings of the birds help the cure for the disease. I think if the deadly disease would get into the area that you live and threatened your life, you would give up a few of the birds to save your life. If you give me some birds, I will give you the medication if the diseases get to your community. I will not need all of the birds just a few of them.

  13. Dear Natives,
To help the entire world, I ask that we may use your sacred bird to cure an infectious disease. The scarlet ibis has the cure for the disease in its wings. With your permission to take the birds, I could stop the disease from spreading to more countries. If you do not accept I am willing to work with you until you allow me to take the birds peacefully. I will give you money, food, or clothing. Anything you need I will be able to provide in trade for the birds. I have to give you a warning though, if you do not allow me to take the birds, the disease will spread and your country will eventually die off. Thank you for giving me the birds peacefully.

  16. Dear Natives,
If you don't give us the bird we won't be able to stop the disease that is spreading across the world. Also if you don't give us the bird the disease will spread to you and kill you all. Think of the innocent people that will die once the disease spreads to their country.

  17. Dear natives
As it seems to be, I will need to harvest some of the feathers of your bird ”the scarlet ibis.” It has come to my attention that this bird is sacred to your people. Even so, there is a major epidemic spreading through out the continents and it seems that your scarlet ibis has the very cure within it’s feathers. If you disagree the world will be too late to make the antidote and all humanity could seise to exist. I am offering you 1000 pounds of gold if you cooperate.
    Sincerely Daniel Sosa
